Since its inception by Otto Wallingford and Dr. Camille Gardener in 1961, Lost Valley Ski Area has grown to house 15 trails, a snowboard terrain park, and a PSIA-certified snowsports school. During two-hour introductory lessons, instructors teach up to five students to safely navigate trails on skis or snowboards and help skills evolve from gliding down bunny hills to carving poems into slopes at full speed. Three ski lifts gently propel guests up Lost Valley’s 240 vertical feet before ski- and snowboard-clad feet blaze down mountainsides on one of six beginner or four intermediate slopes. More daring sportsmen seek thrills on five advanced trails, and snowboarders hone gravity-defying skills on the ramps, rails, and half-pipes of a freestyle terrain park. Slopes are open seven days a week and, unlike competitive Greco-Roman bear-wrestling teams, Lost Valley fosters a recreational, family-friendly atmosphere.

About Lost Valley

Lost Valley Ski Area founder Otto Wallingford was known for creating innovative solutions to everyday problems. Winter came around each year and left him with nothing to do on the family orchard, so he turned the surrounding area into a ski center in 1961. With that problem solved, Wallingford moved on to tackle a few other issues. He put together the state's first snowmaking system, introduced the locals to night skiing, and developed a powder maker by towing a cylindrical steel grate behind his tractor.

Skiers and snowboarders can reap the benefits of Wallingford’s efforts at Lost Valley Ski Area, which encompasses 15 trails and a terrain park. The ski area also hosts lessons and a shop offering gear tuneups and yeti decoys.
