About Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy

The Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy is a small nonprofit, established in 1998, committed to preserving the Jewish heritage of the iconic Lower East Side, America's oldest and most famous immigrant neighborhood. It is a neighborhood that has embodied the hopes and struggles of generations of newcomers to America, a place where hundreds of thousands of immigrants embarked on their road to the American dream. Once the most densely populated place on earth and home to the world’s largest Jewish population, it is the cradle of American Jewish civilization. This heritage is what we are trying to preserve, and we accomplish this goal by providing private customized tours, public tours, and educational curriculum tours showcasing Jewish history here as well as in other New York City neighborhoods, such as Jewish Harlem and the Upper West Side. We believe that our tours reveal the richness and the diversity of these historically and culturally important areas, enabling our visitors to gain a greater appreciation of the American Jewish story.
