In some ways, Melanie Dowell is still living out the effects of the car accident she was in when she was 11 years old. When pain from the accident persisted, her parents took her to a holistic health center, where she was able to experience the healing benefits of massage firsthand—thus cementing her faith in bodywork. Now with 17 years of expertise, at Melanie's Barefoot Bodyworks, she gives her clients the same experience; her massages alleviate the pain and tension that result from accidents, sports injuries, or pushing nerds into broom closets. Every session with Melanie includes a variety of techniques including ashiatsu, deep-tissue, thai stretching, swedish, and reflexology.

Ashiatsu, being one of her most popular modalities offered, means "foot pressure", in Japanese. The broad surface of the therapists foot is used to apply a firm, but gentle Swedish massage stroke with the perfect level of continuous pressure. This is a deep tissue massage that will relax every fiber of a clients body. This is not just a light massage as she specializes in medium to extra-firm pressure. Rest assured, if ashiatsu is not desired, she also uses her hands, forearms, and elbows. Pre-natal massage is offered for those expecting. Aromatherapy, hot towels, and hot packs are included in every session as well.
