Moody Gardens encompasses a water park, a museum, movie theaters, and a duo of wildlife conservatories after growing from its roots as a horseback-riding therapy program during its more than 20 years in business. The Festival of Lights strings the Gardens’ grounds with more than one-million holiday lights, dazzling families as they stroll through the 100 sound-enhanced exhibits and attracting paratroopers who confuse the twinkling globes with a landing strip. The Festival of Lights further radiates holiday cheer with an outdoor skating rink, live entertainment, and photo opportunities with Santa.

The Rainforest Pyramid also opens its gates to holiday revelers, enlightening visitors with up-close-and-personal peeks at more than 1,000 exotic species of flora and fauna. The 10-story triangle tour starts at the edge of the Amazon River exhibit, where playful otters entertain crowds but do not expect generous tips. From there, guests embark on a top-down tour of the conservatory that starts amid the canopy, an ideal vantage point for spotting birds, sloths, and monkeys. On the descent, the cloud forests hide polychromatic frogs, and the nocturnal exhibit explains the origin of such elusive creatures as the porcupine, the African palm civet, and the cotton-eyed joe. The rest of the journey explores the ground-based species dwelling in the Asian, Central and South American, and African rainforests.
