Those who do not learn from automotive history are doomed to repeat it, leading to eternal re-takes of their driver's test and abrupt swerves around errant Model T operators. Avoid temporal loops by taking advantage of today's Groupon: for $10, you get two general admission tickets to the National Automobile Museum. The National Automobile Museum—chiefly collecting vehicles gathered by casino tycoon and car enthusiast William "Bill" Harrah—includes four exhibit halls that display 235 sepia-tinted vehicles from the 1890s to the present day. Each exhibit covers 25 years from an era when cars ruled the earth, and includes dynamic street scenes. The museum building itself aims to imitate the form of a classic automobile, its facility adorned with rounded corners and chrome trim and well filled with windshield wiper fluid. The collection includes many horseless buggies of note, including the Jerrari (a Jeep with a Ferrari engine) and the sleek 1938 Phantom Corsair. Feel free to let the audio tour steer you easily through the halls of the museum and sometimes into walls to amuse the audio guides.

  • Easily the biggest collection of cars I've ever seen in one place! There are four huge galleries to look through, and if you are a car guy like me, it can take hours to go through. – Chris Y., Yelp
  • Excellent displays with just the right amount of info on the accompanying boards. You can do the audio tour if you want more info. – scorpiochild, TripAdvisor

About National Automobile Museum

Since it opened in 1989, the National Automobile Museum has put the history of automotive travel on full display through exhibits, rare collections, and vehicular ephemera. The museum houses more than 200 cars in all, from the first horseless carriages to vintage and classic models to awe-inspiring oddities. Most hail from the garage of the Harrah’s Hotels and Casinos founder and legendary collector Bill Harrah, whose personal fleet reached approximately 1,400 vehicles. The automobiles are set against a backdrop of exacting street scenes, with set pieces and ambient audio recreating the world in which these artifacts roamed. This degree of detail, coupled with a lineup of permanent and rotating exhibits, has established the museum as among the class of the country's automobile museums. In fact, AutoWeek magazine placed it among its top five in the country.
