Celebrating the towering ships whose wooden hulls ruled the waves before the advent of mechanical propulsion, Tall Ships Chicago 2013 delights nautical aficionados with tours aboard the sea crafts. Throughout the weekend, nine tall ships sit open for visits, from the diminutive, 72-foot brigantine Pathfinder, to the majestic, 210-foot SS Sørlandet, the oldest full-rigged ship still sailing. The schooner Hindu is also on hand, which ferried spices from India during the Golden Age of Sail. On several evenings, fireworks will light up the shimmering waves and rippling sails with bursts of fiery luminescence.
