Bowlers might feel like they've stepped back in time even before they set foot in Needham Bowlaway. Needham has been open since 1917, the alley is tucked beneath the old post office, its entrance a featureless door with just a tiny sign above it to indicate where it leads. Inside bowlers gather around eight lanes, where they send bocce ball-sized balls towards narrow candlestick pins—the traditional New England version of bowling —making this family fun game more accessible for children and harder for adults. Bumpers are available in each lane allow kids to play gutter ball–free, and birthday parties treat guests to trophies and a cake from Lizzy's Ice Cream.
