Similar to tickling a bear without losing an arm, the art of breathing underwater requires years of practice and dedication. Divers must be at least 10 years old, and those below the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All equipment is included in the lesson.

The 90- to 120-minute Discover Scuba course introduces the inexperienced diver to underwater breathing. The lesson is taught by a professional instructor who will equip each student with the proper gear and the proper knowledge to use the proper gear. After the pre-dive lesson, you'll get acclimated to the new breathing method and dive into the Manhattan Plaza pool, located just above the Pan Aqua storefront. Underwater, you'll get a feel for aqueous immersion while learning about dive basics and safety practices. Bring along your own bathing suit, towel, and a lock for your possessions.

Though the class won't churn out scuba divers certified to dive alone, it might finally put to rest a persistent fear of bathtubs and really big puddles. Though breathing underwater can feel a little strange at first, it quickly becomes second nature after a bit of submerged practice.
