Indoor-play options tend to be limited and dull, ranging from tiresome sofa-pillow construction projects to repetitive vacuum-cleaner rodeos. Ditch the dirt-busters and discover rousing roofed-in recreation with today's Groupon: for $40, you get a 10-visit pass (a $90 value) at Peekaboo Playland in Eagle Rock.

Every weekday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Peekaboo Playland lets parents unleash their pent-up progeny onto a 3,300-square-foot indoor playground, where youngsters can exercise their bodies and imaginations. Tykes toddle their way through a variety of colorful activity areas, including a multilevel play structure, an inflatable bouncer-slide, a pretend restaurant, and an imitation trading floor for tots to buy and sell shares of soy futures. Large windows line the walls and illuminate the space with enough natural light to ease eyestrain in secluded reading rooms or to elegantly frame make-believe princesses modeling gowns in the dress-up nook. Fun-facilitating staff members keep the space safe and sanitary by cleaning equipment throughout the day and enforcing protective guidelines to help make sure that every child stays healthy and free of third-degree boo-boos. Mothers, fathers, and mysterious millionaire wards can keep a close eye on their offspring while sipping a complimentary cup of coffee in the care-givers area. They can also take their kids out to lunch or on unexpected diaper runs and return later in the day at no extra charge.

About Peekaboo Playland

Millions of people have seen the inside of Peekaboo Playland, though they probably don't know it. The indoor playground has garnered ample media attention, including a feature on The Doctors. It was even used to shoot an episode of NBC's The Office, during which new parents Jim and Pam seek out the perfect daycare center for their child, and it was featured in an episode of HBO's Togetherness. Spoiler alert: Peekaboo Playland fits the bill. Luckily, the creative space appeals to more than just sitcom characters.

The massive open-play facilities scream imagination like an improv troupe that's trying way too hard. European artist Marlene Wittfeld created custom paintings for the indoor playground, and her images of beaches, forests, and outer space make the walls seem like a giant storybook. Nature sounds and carefully selected music set the tone as kids slide down from a large "stork's nest," jump in a bounce castle, or play pretend in the dress-up nook. The Baby Balcony caters to kids ages 2 and younger, while long work tables and open spaces set the stage for creativity.

Parents find ample activities as well. They can browse a wide selection of magazines and sip complementary coffee while surfing on free WiFi, or order food from one of the nearby restaurants.
