For more than 30 years, Captain Frank Ursitti has shipped thousands of freshly minted mariners out for close-up views of the briny deep on his 85-foot wildlife observation vessel, Ranger 85, one of Ventura County's largest whale-watching ships. Piloting passengers through the azure waters of Channel Islands National Park and Marine Sanctuary, Captain Frank and his crew of narrating nautical naturalists keep a sharp eye on the horizon, ready to divine from a stray ripple or seagull’s expression the presence of nearby leviathans.
