One PRP Hair Restoration Treatment
PRP Hair Restoration treatments help reduce hair loss, increase the diameter of hairs and the density of hair growth.
What is PRP? Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy uses your body’s own platelet-rich plasma to repair damaged tissues and create new, healthy cells. Plasma is a component in your blood that contains special growth factors, which help repair tissue damage and promote healing. When injected in the problem area, PRP helps speed up the healing process, so your body recovers faster. PRP is an injection treatment that uses a person’s own blood as regenerative therapy to stimulate and strengthen hair follicle growth.
How does PRP work? The process begins with taking a vial of a patient’s blood. The blood is then drawn into a syringe and spun down in centrifuge to separate its components (red blood cells, platelet rich plasma, and plasma). The concentrated platelet-rich plasma is extracted and then injected into hair follicles.
Dr. David believes PRP used for aesthetic procedures or joint repair is safe and effective. He recommends a combination of PRP injections plus a prescription hair loss topical solution to promote new hair growth. Dr. David has seen improvements in as little as 6 months. Patients typically only need 2-3 PRP treatments and the appointments are spaced out every couple of months.
Why PRP for hair loss? When injecting PRP into the scalp stem cells are stimulated and in return generate new tissue. When this happens the hair follicles begin to grow new hair and fill in the areas on the scalp that are thinning. Dr. David strongly suggests trying PRP for hair restoration before considering hair transplant surgery.
