Greek philosopher Heraclitus once said that one cannot step into the same river twice, since man-eating leeches show no mercy for repeat offenders. Keep a raft between you and them with today's deal: for $67, you get a one-day rafting trip on the upper or lower New River from Rivermen (up to a $134 value) in Lansing, West Virginia. This deal is valid through September 6, 2010.
Rivermen's New River rafting trips guide amateurs and avid aquanauts alike through some of the most scenic whitewater rapids of New River Gorge National River. Reverential rafters can drink up hearty eyefuls of the gorge and its abundant wildlife, weathered bluffs, and recognizable bridge, as seen on the West Virginia state Pog and quarter. The upper river excursion (4–6 hours, $124) traverses canyons on relatively mild waters punctuated by a few easy rapids. Easily navigable by inflatable duckie (a kayak-like vessel that holds 1–2 people), the upper trip makes an enjoyable introduction to whitewater for families, beginner to intermediate rafters, and adolescent Loch Ness monsters. The lower route (4–6 hours, $134) quickens the pulse with more than 25 rapids, as well as tranquil pools and the requisite breathtaking scenery. Both tours will stop to provide lunch.
Outside of avalanche surfing, no activity combines breathtaking vistas, bursts of adrenaline, and full-body exercise like whitewater rafting. Invite along a few awkward high-school friends with whom you've lost touch and take a memorable tour of the "Grand Canyon of the East" by raft with today's Groupon to Rivermen.
Participants must be at least 12 years of age. Reservations are required; space is subject to availability.

- Overall Rivermen is very well run, handles large groups well, and preps people extremely well for the experience. – Mediahound100, TripAdvisor
- This is the real-deal whitewater rafting... not for the light of heart or weak of arm. There are a bunch of fifth and fourth class rapids, and it ranks about seventh in the world for whitewater fun! – Katie Y., Yelp
