Counter-service pizza places are a dime a dozen in New York City, so it takes a little extra something to stand out. Saba's Pizza might have that it factor. It serves calzones, salads, and pasta, too; its kosher status lends itself to Mediterranean dishes like borekas, falafel, and baba ghanouj. Most important, though, is the fact that Saba's offers three kinds of pizza.

• Round: This is the prototypical New York–style pie. Choose your own toppings (mostly veggies, plus soy pepperoni), check out the simple margherita, or go big with the eggplant-parmesan pizza.
• Square: The crisp and dense Sicilians are covered in traditional toppings. The similar Grandma pie offers a thicker and airier crust, and Saba's prepares three different versions: marinara, pesto, or vodka sauce.
• Bar: This style of pizza is ultra-thin and ultra-crisp—perhaps to save room for beer in its original home. Opt for the cheese-starring bianca or the fresh primavera, with olives, mushrooms, onions, peppers, broccoli, and spinach.
