For centuries, the only way to see a polar bear and a giraffe on the same day was to ride a saddled giraffe all the way to the Arctic Circle. Now, these climatological opposites can coexist and hopefully team up to raise each other's babies at the with today's Groupon: for $25, you get two child tickets (a $14 value), two adult tickets (a $22 value), six carousel or train-ride tickets (a $12 value), a zoo key (an audio tour of the zoo; a $3.50 value), a coupon for 10% off at the Zoofari Market, and a coupon for 10% off the concession stands at the Sacramento Zoo (a $51.50 total value).
The Sacramento Zoo's 14.3 sprawling acres are landscaped to take on the traits of native habitats and called home by more than 140 native-to-the-area exotic and endangered species, such as Coquerel's sifaka and the West African dwarf crocodile (600 animals in total). Head into the reptile house, which was built in the shape of a snake, and wink at adorable, legged and legless creatures, such as the Gila monster, Brazilian rainbow boa, a community-theater actor wearing a green lycra onesie, and Herkimer, an 81-year-old desert tortoise. Mammalian attractions include the Sumatran tiger, a solitary predator with ears like an expensive microphone and eyes like really good 3D glasses, and the red river hog, a nocturnal native of Africa.
If it's been years since you spent a day watching zoo animals watch sunsets that they think are filled with bats but are actually specs on their spectacles, you might need to take an occasional break to refuel with a hamburger at the Kampala Café, a plush giraffe from the Zoofari Market, or an ice cream cone at Savannah Snacks.

About Sacramento Zoo
Usually you have to look up to see a giraffe's face, but at the Sacramento Zoo, their viewing deck allows visitors to get eye to eye with the world’s tallest animal and watch the growing giraffe calf engage the rest of the herd with languid, graceful movements. From the deck you'll will also be able to watch their long, purple tongues unfurl and grab elm and acacia branches from your hand during scheduled Giraffe Encounters (additional fee required). At the Sacramento Zoo’s sprawling 14.5-acre grounds, this is just one of the ways the zoo team brings the public closer to animals in their efforts to nurture public education and respect for wildlife.
Across lush grounds, the African lions play and rest, white-handed gibbons swing, and red kangaroos move about with emus and wallabies. More than 500 animals call the zoo their home, where zookeepers provide care, practice conservation, and responsibly breed endangered species to help them stave off extinction. That dedication extends to all creatures, from the slithering Brazilian rainbow boa to the elegant snow leopard. Zoo personnel also organize educational programs such as classes, wildlife stage shows, overnight campouts and more. The zoo also hosts special ticketed events and fun for all ages throughout the year.
