If humans are mostly made of water, and fish traditionally inhabit water, fish should naturally occur in the human body. Fix this gap in nature’s logic with today’s Groupon: for $17, you get $35 worth of Japanese cuisine at Sakura Garden Japanese Steak House in Glastonbury or Sakura Garden Japanese Sushi & Seafood Buffet in West Hartford.

Sakura Garden Japanese Steak House serves fresh hibachi cuisine and fusion sushi in a sleek and sophisticated environment. Cowboys by day and by night, Sakura's behatted and bespurred chefs prepare an inspired menu of freshly grilled full dinners, such as filet mignon ($25) or filet mignon with fresh lobster tails ($32), on a wide-open hibachi before the very eyes of dazzled diners.

If your favorite reality show or the reality show you’re currently starring in wields enough dining drama for the day, slink into the swanky hibachi-free dining area for one of the inventive sushi creations and new-style sashimi, such as the sushi pizza fiesta, made with spicy tuna, tomato, and mozzarella cheese on homemade tortilla chips, served with spicy mayo and eel sauce ($12). The smiley staff at Sakura Garden also serves up traditional noodle entrees ($12+) and elegant plated fare, such as the seared tuna steak in a sake-and-soy butter sauce ($24) and the caviar-topped chilean sea bass ($25).

The eatery is also an ideal place to savor a romantic meal by the flickering light of a candle-lit booth or to watch a meal fold and unfold at the base of a Mount Fuji mural. More metropolitan diners can sidle up to the bar to watch the game on one of four widescreen TVs, sip on a specialty martini, or create their own straws from hallowed-out chopsticks.

Quickly quiet talkative tummies with an ocean of nibbles at Sakura Garden Japanese Sushi & Seafood Buffet, where the dinner buffet ($26.95 Mon–Thurs; $28.95 Fri–Sun) busts out a rotating menu of seafaring delights, such as calamari salad, swordfish, ginger shrimp, and chilean sea bass. Sample traditional sushi, such as the spicy yellowtail roll and sweet-potato tempura roll, or try more elaborate creations, such as the sunny kiwi roll, made with shrimp tempura, avocado, and cucumber, topped with kiwi and served with honey wasabi and eel sauce. Fresh, made-to-order sushi is also available at the West Hartford location.

About Sakura Garden Japanese Steak House

Patrons shouldn't be fooled by the sleek white and grey exterior of Sakura Garden—there's plenty of color inside. Through the doors, blossoming pink cherry trees mark a path to the dining room, where a sea-blue glass ceiling hints at the variety of oceanic fare served up at the all-you-can eat buffet. Here, wall-mounted fish provide pairing suggestions as diners dish up hot items such as steamed snow crab legs and teriyaki salmon, as well as cold options such as shrimp cocktails. Seafood also reigns supreme at the sushi bar, where chefs slice sashimi and create rolls fresh to order. After guests have filled their plates, they continue on to the softly-lit dining room, where red lights cast a glow on murals depicting misty, pastoral vistas.

A full bar offers Japanese beer and a selection of sake, and a private room is available for events and special occasions. The buffet is closed from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and happy hour runs from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
