Get Rid of Unsightly Veins With Sclerotherapy Injections And a Free Vein Ultrasound
*What is Sclerotherapy Injections? Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to treat varicose veins and spider veins. It involves the injection of a special solution, known as a sclerosant, into the affected veins to cause them to collapse and eventually fade from view. Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive and effective treatment for these unsightly and sometimes painful vein conditions.
- What is Vein Ultrasound? A vein ultrasound, also known as a venous ultrasound or Doppler ultrasound, is a medical imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the veins in the body. It is a non-invasive and safe procedure used to assess the blood flow in veins and detect various venous conditions.
What To Expect
- A fine needle injects the sclerosant solution directly into the affected veins. The solution irritates the vein's lining, causing it to constrict and eventually seal shut. This process is usually well-tolerated, but you may experience mild discomfort or a burning sensation during the injection.
- Vein ultrasounds use the same basic principles as other ultrasound procedures. A transducer, which emits high-frequency sound waves, is placed on the skin over the area of interest. These sound waves bounce off the veins and are recorded by the transducer. The computer then processes these echoes to create real-time images or Doppler waveforms.
- Sclerotherapy often requires multiple treatment sessions, depending on the number and size of the veins being treated. These sessions are typically spaced several weeks apart.
- During a vein ultrasound, the patient may need to lie down, and a special gel is applied to the skin over the area being examined. The transducer is moved over the skin, and the images are displayed on a monitor. In the case of a Doppler ultrasound, blood flow is represented by color on the screen.
- After the procedure, you can usually return to regular activities, although strenuous exercise should be avoided for a few days. You may be advised to avoid direct sunlight on the treated area and to wear compression garments for a specified period to aid in healing and prevent complications.
- Over time, the treated veins will gradually fade and become less noticeable. Some people may need touch-up treatments, and not all veins may completely disappear, but the overall cosmetic improvement is often significant.
