Today’s Groupon whisks your eardrums away from the glugs, hisses, and discomfiting chirps of their usual machinery shed. Hear the San Francisco Symphony perform 20th-century French works at Davies Symphony Hall on Friday, January 15. Choose between orchestra seats for $41 or premier first-tier seats for $35 as world-renowned conductor and composer George Benjamin and acclaimed pianist Nicolas Hodges play Ravel, Messiaen, and two of Benjamin's own works. You'll also get admission to the Davies After Hours after party on the second-tier lobby. It’s like dunking a musical cookie into musical milk and letting it coagulate in a sublime and ticklish aural experience.

This performance is part of Project San Francisco, an annual residency that brings renowned musicians and artists to perform in SF. George Benjamin is an internationally acclaimed British composer who was made a Chevalier dans l'ordre des Arts et Lettres in 1996 and won the Royal Philharmonic Society Award in 2008. During the January 15 performances, he'll conduct Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite as well as his Rapsodie espagnole. The two pieces bookend two of Benjamin’s own works, Duet for the piano and Ringed by the Flat Horizon. The sound is perfect, and you can count the sharps and flats on the piano from orchestra-level or premier first-tier seating (click here to see a seating chart).

When the musical feasting ends on the main stage, today’s Groupon gets you admission to the sonic after party of Davies After Hours on the second-tier lobby. Four-time Grammy-nominated John Santos will lead his sextet in driving Latin jazz melodies in a relaxed and intimate setting.

Tickets are distributed first come, first served.

Reviews

Saturday Night Magazine reviewed Davies After Hours:

  • From the symphony that’s won eleven Grammys, frequently gives back to the community and is notorious for luring new audiences to fall in love with classical music comes a new event: the Davies After Hours. It’s a three-part series that’s a little bit of concert, a little bit of reception and 100% inspiring, educational and fun.

Yelpers give the San Francisco Symphony 4.5 stars:

  • Davis Symphony Hall is a beautiful space, and just being in there is a cool audience experience. The orchestra is world-class. – Tatiana R.
