Whales are a divisive topic because, although many people find them cute and larger than other animals, there are other Americans who never forgave the whales for their actions during the Korean Conflict. The whales' overt support for Communism convinced many school-aged girls to defect to the DPRK.
While their actions during the early '50s don't seem to have had a lasting impact on the popularity of whales, there has been an increased number of whale watches undertaken each year by vacationers and conspiracy theorists who want to keep a close eye on the radical undersea mammals.
