Accredited by Surfing America USA, Santa Barbara Seals Surf School dispatches its instructors to lead surfing lessons for wave riders of all experience level. Pupils first practice stands and positioning on dry land atop a Surftech and Doyle 7- to 10-foot beginner soft-top board before transitioning their maneuvers to the blue beyond. Warm and snug Billabong wetsuits keep students goose-bump free as solo riders, duos, or quartets navigate the ripples of Poseidon’s back yard. In order to wrangle the best waves, the surf school provides directions to one of two locations, Leadbetter Beach or Campus Point, at the time of lesson scheduling depending on tide conditions. Surfers can schedule lessons year-round Monday–Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with students admitted on a first-come, first-served basis.
