Seize the Clay was Memphis’s first paint-your-own-pottery studio and has been around for more than 14 years. The studio’s bright colors and friendly tables fuse the best parts of an art classroom and a neighborhood café, creating a warm space for its customers' colorful efforts. A huge selection of blank ceramics try to win the affections of visiting artists, including collectable figurines ($5.50), piggy banks, large serving platters ($100), and dog bowls; most pottery pieces cost between $12 and $35. After making your selection, the staff will advise you on proper painting techniques using the huge variety of paints, which you'll then be able to use to decorate your artifact with flowers, apples, or the schematics for an internal combustion engine. The studio fee is $7 (except during special discounted times) and covers all painting supplies and firing. Finished pieces are usually available for pick-up after 3–5 days.

Seize the Clay welcomes humans of all ages, with birthday-party packages for youngsters, family nights for families, and Friday wine-and-cheese BYOB nights for adults only. Today’s deal is good for six months, which should give you plenty of time to plan for upcoming birthdays, bachelorette parties, and awkward Internet dates. You can let loose the maniacal, beret-clad artist inside by painting away all your pain and worry in the form of a pink party platter that depicts Arnold Palmer watching reruns of Blazing Saddles.
