A practice range is a golfer's sanctuary, free of common course distractions such as blimps shaped like William Howard Taft and vendors who sell rubber-band guns. Practice in peace with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of golf balls at Skokie Sports Park's driving range.
Recently named one of America's top 100 golf ranges by the Golf Range Association of America (GRAA), Skokie Sports Park's driving range features a Fiberbuilt grass-like hitting system for precise ball-pelting. A two-tier, 40-station range ensures the personal space required for muttering quotes from the Caddyshack 2 commentary track without bothering golf-neighbors (11 stations are heated for cooler seasons). And the range's automatic tee-up system makes bending over laughably antiquated. There are also new target greens with forgiving landing surfaces and enhanced sightlines, and each shot's distance is measured by lasers. Rather than be weighed down by a bucket of balls, golfers get a debit card that, upon insertion, generates a teed-up ball. During off-peak hours, the $20 debit card will get you 460 balls. During peak hours (daily after 2 p.m. and all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), it gets 191 balls.
