A wine tasting is similar to an episode of Law & Order, but instead of fighting crime, the cops drink wine. For $15, today's Groupon gets you a Groupon-exclusive combined wine tasting and Wine 101 class from Slattery Vintage Estates (a $45.50 value). The winestravaganza includes an etched wine glass to take home and plenty of nibbles to complement each sip. With more than 50 Nebraskan and numerous worldly wines available and a mini-course designed to hone wine knowledge, Slattery caters to a wide variety of fermented-grape lovers and newbies alike.
The 1.5–2-hour event, which starts at 7 p.m. on a Friday of your choosing, takes place in the wine-tasting room. Set in a French Country House, the tastery features Nebraska vintages from sweet to dry, beer, food, and a wine troll. While sipping sips at the special after-hours event, you'll learn wine lessons from the vineyard's owner's daughter, who is studying to be a sommelier. The unintimidating course includes tips on how to rate, taste, and judge a wine, so you'll leave with the ability to determine if a wine has oaky undertones or hints of tire iron.
The tasting and class also give you access to Slattery's two acres of mature grapevines, spruced up with a courtyard, fountain, pond, and waterfall. The soothing, natural environment complements pours, much like the cheese nibbles that will be prepared by an on-site chef. The grounds also provide plenty of places to hide if you do accidentally make eye contact with the wine troll.
