The sea has much to teach us—its tides foretell the lunar cycle, its salt treats us to delicious shark jerky, and its colorful creatures prove that nature looks better in Blu-ray. Celebrate the big salty puddle's sagacity with today's Groupon: for $12, you get $25 worth of American fare and drinks at Sol Grill in Newport Beach.
Located on the Newport Beach Pier and inspired by its oceanic surroundings, Sol Grill shells out a collection of surf-and-turf fare in the form of attractive appetizers, sizzling steaks, saucy seafood, and palatable pastas. Hearty eaters begin their appetite workouts with starters such as the light and refreshing Sol bruschetta ($8.25) or the hand-rolled filet mignon meatballs, which backstroke through a creamy portobello gravy ($7.95). Once adequately elongated, bellies tackle main courses such as the Sol salmon, topped with a spicy tomato sauce made with white wine, garlic, and sweet basil, and served with grilled veggies and your choice of pasta, rice, or garlic mashed potatoes ($18.95). Pasta partisans may find a love connection with the lobster ravioli, tiny pillows of lobster meat and ricotta cheese frolicking in a vodka lobster sauce ($15.95). Idealistic eaters looking to notch their third goal and make a dinner hat trick can achieve this feat with the vanilla pot de creme, a vanilla custard with a seared sugar top and walnut and fresh strawberry accents, drizzled in honey ($5.50). Quench stubborn thirsts with fruity sangria del Sol, bottled beers, and specialty coffees before ending the night with a moonlit walk down the beach for a rousing game of full-contact Duck, Duck, Goose.

About Sol Grill
Given that it's a seashell's throw from Newport Beach Pier, it's not surprising that Sol Grill is decorated with surfboards hung on bright red and yellow walls. But when the glint from the crystal chandeliers and antique glass bottles catches your eye, you realize there's something charmingly disjointed about this place.
It's a theme reflected in the menu, where guests find foods presented in unexpected ways. For instance, meals start with filet mignon prepared as an appetizer of hand-rolled meatballs in portobello gravy. Instead of clams, the chowder is studded with grilled Hawaiian ahi tuna, and a fettuccine dish surprises with swordfish and capers. Of course, there are some classic preparations as well, including rack of lamb charred over open flame, as fire encased in a steel box continues to be incapable of cooking anything.
