About Son's Island at Lake Placid

Just getting to Son's Island at Lake Placid is a pleasant experience, whether by cruising in a boat to one of the island's docks or driving a car across the 100-foot wooden bridge that connects this hideaway to the outside world. Large cypress and pecan trees form the framework around more than 4,000 feet of lakefront land, where groups can spend the day swimming, boating, fishing, kayaking, and paddle boarding.

Not all the activities at Son's Island end in -ing, though: you can also play horseshoes or volleyball, or you can simply kick back in one of the 22 open-air lakeside cabanas. These Hawaiian-style huts—complete with palm-covered roofs—come stocked with picnic tables, hammocks, barbecue pits, and even electric outlets just in case your portable robot butler runs out of juice.
