About Southern Grace Distilleries, Inc.
While an abandoned correctional facility might seem like an unusual location to set up a distillery, to the minds behind Southern Grace, it made the perfect sense, and is the only distillery in the country that was once a former prison. Its old brick dormitory, erected in 1929, functions as their barrelhouse, a place where corn whiskey ages to become bourbon. Another, newer dormitory made the perfect spot for their manufacturing facility, with individual cell blocks readily lending themselves to the various stages of production and packaging. Perhaps most importantly, the old prison is uniquely suited to keep out thirsty fans of the distillery's most popular products—including its award-winning Sun Dog 130 moonshine—except, of course, for those enjoying a tour of their operations.
