Students pummel the stuffing from focus pads and punching bags in boxing classes. Jiu-jitsu instructors, on the other hand, teach the art of even closer close combat, explaining the techniques behind takedowns, chokeholds, and joint locks. Kids aged 9 and older can also practice self-discipline and stay physically active in Kids MMA courses. Boxing-class attendants must use padded gloves and can rent a pair on site ($3, not included in today's Groupon), buy a pair from the studio ($35, not included in today's Groupon), or come to class wearing a bubble-wrap uniform. The gym holds classes seven days a week, according to its online schedule, allowing students to use punches to perk up from a case of the Mondays or to relieve the boiling anger caused by reading the phrase "case of the Mondays."

About Southside Knockout Training Center

Owner Bryan Harney and the Southside Knockout team at Mount Greenwood challenge clients to reach personal fitness goals during group boot-camp and private training sessions. But while sessions can get intense, there's no screaming or threats of KP duty like with a military-style boot-camp. Instead, they lead students in indoor classes that use kettlebells and TRX suspension trainers, as well as their own body weight for resistance.
