On Saturday, October 13, and Sunday, October 14, participants wearing event T-shirts gather at Carolina Adventure World in Winnsboro, South Carolina, before taking off on the approximately 12-mile Spartan Beast obstacle race. Racers who complete the course receive a finisher's medal, and all racers aged 21 and older receive a complimentary beer ticket.
Spartan Beast Race
Seven extreme athletes and one Royal Marine banded together to design Spartan Beast Race's intense miles-long course strewn with more than 15 obstacles to test resilience, stamina, and strength. Clad in event T-shirts, runners collect smudges and stains as they clamber across mud pits, slide unscathed under barbed wire, and juke feral linebackers. Upon crossing the finish line, victors are awarded a participation medal, and of-age competitors sate their thirst with cold beer. The top three male and female runners each qualify for free entry to the next race-level up. Combatants compare fresh battle wounds—or scars from filing folders—as a live band plays catchy tunes and the aromas of warm, savory food (available for purchase) tempt grumbling bellies.

About Spartan Beast Race
Extreme athletes banded together to design Spartan Races' intense courses orchestrated over standardized distances, each strewn with natural and man-made obstacles to test mind-body fitness, resilience, stamina, and strength, designed to leave participants exhausted and exhilarated. In waves of 200, runners collect smudges and stains as they perform box jumps, haul heavy sandbags, and juke feral linebackers. Depending on where in the world they're participating, the course may be as short as 3 miles or, for extremely practiced athletes, as long as a full marathon.
