The Mediterranean Sea shaped some of the world's most ancient civilizations, who gathered by its shores to dive for the delicious tzatziki and falafel growing beneath its crystal waves. Transport to this legendary culinary coast with today's deal: for $7, you get $15 worth of Mediterranean delights and drinks at either of Spitz's two locations in Little Tokyo or Eagle Rock.

After visually scrolling up, down, and all around the focused menu, get off to a noshing start with the classic Turkish döner, warm lavash bread wrapped around slices of lamb and beef with tzatziki, cucumber, tomatoes, and chili sauce ($9.49). Start a grassroots vegetarian movement with a falafelite complete with hummus, feta, and kalamata olives ($9). Like a Trapper Keeper, each meal can be customized to taste by covering it with pony stickers. Choose a bread (focaccia sandwich or lavash wrap), a style (original, spicy, Mediterranean for $1 more, and others), and a side (seasoned fries, pita strips with hummus, Greek side salad for $1 more, and others). Döner offerings can also be ordered à la carte or constructed as a plate ($10.49) or salad ($9).

Spitz refuses to believe that fast food can't be good food, transforming the iconic street food of the eastern Mediterranean into a lively space accented by a full bar and wrought-metal sculptures in the shape of the rotating spits where the meat slowly revolve-roasts to perfect sizzliciousness. The restaurant was founded by an Occidental grad who traveled to Spain and couldn't get enough döner, and knew others would share his passion. The excitement also expands beyond the culinary arena when ears inside the the Little Tokyo location are treated to live DJs Thursday through Saturday nights.

Valid for dine-in only.

Reviews

Citysearchers give Spitz 4.5 stars. More than 230 Yelpers give the Eagle Rock location four stars, and 175 Yelpers give the Little Tokyo location 3.5 stars. Zagat reviewers sing its praises as well, and the Los Angeles Times has this to say about the newer Little Tokyo location:

  • The second location of Spitz, the "home of the döner kebab," doesn't have a gelato bar, but it has a few things the original Eagle Rock venue lacks: A wine list that runs the gamut from Austrian Gruner Veltliner to Santa Ynez pinot noir. – Elina Shatkin, Los Angeles Times
  • Spitz is hands-down the best low-cost meal in Los Angeles. The specialty is Turkish-style "doner" kabob: akin to Greek gyros (thin slices of seasoned meat). You have a choice of sandwich or wrap style. Sides include Greek salad and incredibly tasty sweet potato fries. – MKinLA, Zagat
  • I just tried this place for the first time and I will definitely become a regular! – 242008, Citysearch
