Hailed by Jonathan Swift as an act of bravery unparalleled by lion-taming, eating oysters is more than a competitive sport. Extol the mouthwatering shellfish from the deck overlooking the city, or grab a beer and a bucket at the oyster bar. Whether you spend a sunny day on the palm-tree-festooned patio or cozy up to the inviting downstairs bar, there's always an opportunity to show off your signature finger dexterity and monkey toes with a bucket of shuck-em-yourself oysters ($16 for two dozen). The massive menu at Steamhouse Lounge also offers a decadent lobster bisque (cup $4.50, bowl $6) to warm you up and a wide variety of fresh seafood entrees. Try the fisherman’s platter (piled full of fried oysters, shrimp, and catfish with hush puppies and unfried coleslaw, $26) or the rich and delectable snow-crab dinner (with corn, coleslaw, and garlic cheese toast, $21).

Keep your palate and the conversation from drying up with a cold brew, or sample the variety of specialty drinks, such as the signature goombay smash (Cruzan coconut rum with pineapple, orange, and lime juices topped with dark rum, $7). Steamhouse Lounge is open Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to midnight 363 days a year. Order from the kitchen until 11:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday.
