Taco Libre Truck Showdown

Imagine eating tacos, unceasingly, for three hours. It sounds like something you’d do in a dream, one where you also rowed across a margarita lake on a tortilla chip. On Saturday, May 2, however, it’s doable during the waking hours, thanks to the Chinatown-International District’s Mobile Food Rodeo’s Taco Libre Truck Showdown.

As the evening unfolds, the team from The Matador whips up an endless stream of hot-from-the-grill tacos, stuffed with a choice of carne asada, braised carnitas, and shredded chicken. When revelers aren’t feasting on eats from the Matador’s, they’re honoring the coming Cinco de Mayo in other ways—by dancing to a mariachi performance, for instance, or mingling with lucha libre wrestlers.

About Taco Libre Truck Showdown

What started as a 35-truck gathering in a small parking lot, the Mobile Food Rodeo has grown into an annual, multi-day celebration of small business and on-the-move eateries. Since that first powwow, the Rodeo has become one of the country's largest festivals of its kind, roping in up to 40 food trucks per event. In 2013 alone, more than 87,000 people dispersed through Seattle's neighborhoods—Capitol Hill, South Lake Union, and Fremont—to experience new flavors, all while avoiding having to thumb wrestle for a table at a restaurant. The Mobile Food Rodeo does more than just fill bellies, though, since it acts as a showcase for new culinary talents and creates a vibrant marketplace for small businesses to share their talents.
