I Can Write Well! From Fluent Sentences to an Essay! A Six-Class Writing Course
Every student has the ability to improve and strengthen their writing. From students that need a little extra help to students that possess excellent writing skills, there is always room to create and achieve new learning goals. In this six week course, students will learn and/or review the conventions and standards of English writing. The goal of this course is for students to be able to construct well-written, sentences, paragraphs, and essays.
Weeks 1&2: In this class, students will practice: (1) Identifying simple and compound sentences (2) Identifying varied sentence structure in a reading (3) Identifying figurative language in writing and (4) Creating sentences of varied structure.
Weeks 3&4: In this class, students will examine model paragraphs. Students will be introduced to topic sentences, supporting details that directly relate to the topic sentence, and concluding paragraph sentences. Student will compose both expository and opinion paragraphs in these classes.
Weeks 5&6: In these classes, students will examine and compose a model essay.
Essay Mastery Course: A Four Week Course for Beginner-Intermediate Writers
The goal of this course is for students to be able to construct opinion, expository, and personal narrative essays. Additionally, students will compose a short story.
Week 1 : Students will begin: (1) Identifying the difference between a claim and an opinion (2) Identifying the elements of an opinion essay (3) Writing an opinion essay using the OREO method (4) Creating an essay with clear organization patterns and smooth transitions.
Week 2: In this class, students will examine model expository and personal essays. Student will compose both expository and personal narrative essays in these classes.
Week 3: In this class, students will be introduced to the elements of a short story: exposition, climax, rising action, falling action, characterization, dialogue, and descriptive writing.
Week 4: This class will serve as a review and final showcase. Students will play a learning review game and choose their best piece of writing to voluntarily read to the class.
A typical class will follow this structure:
1. Warm Up -3 minutes
2. Lesson Introduction - 2 minutes
3. Direct Instruction with Active Class Participation - 10 minutes
4. Guided Practice - 10 minutes
5. Independent Writing Practice - 15 minutes
6. Review/Exit Activity - 5 minutes

I have over seven years of teaching experience in reading, composition and literature. I possess a Bachelor of Arts in English, as well as a Masters in Education.
