Texan witches often cursed their enemies with the Tex-Mex Hex—causing them to weep ranchero sauce, sprout burritos on their arms, and turn everything they touch into refried beans. Celebrate a more benevolent form of this delectable magic with today's Groupon. For $10, you get $20 worth of bodacious Tex-Mex fare and non-alcoholic drinks from Texican Cafe. Nosh away at your choice of the Manchaca Road, Brodie Oaks Shopping Center, or Lakeline location.

Start your tour of Texican's massive menu by slinging your jaw around spinach, mushroom, and onion quesadillas ($7.99) or clearing your taste buds of impurities with spicy cream-cheese-stuffed jalapenos ($5.49). The plentiful options let you supplicate at the altar of a traditional dish such as cabrito—a platter of tender goat roasted with mysterious spices and topped with tomato and bell pepper ($14.99)—or head straight for the grill with a 10 oz. rib-eye steak tampiqueña ($14.99). To enter the mythical realm of "New Mexico," head northwest of south of the border for some Santa Fe enchiladas in smoky red chile ($9.49), or fly straight up into space instead with a deadly delicious chile relleno plump with chicken, beef, shrimp, or cheese and legally drowned in red tomatillo sauce ($8.99).

Homemade tortillas and hand-tacoed tacos give Texican Cafe an extra flavor of authenticity that cannot be duplicated at home no matter how many chupacabras you attempt to domesticate. Though the layout and accoutrements of the cafe's three locations vary, you'll be consistently plied with more good service than you know how to comfortably tip—and more red- and orange-colored walls than your retinas could ever digest (not to mention the 26 new TVs at Brodie Oaks). One Groupon can be used per table, so use today's deal as a pretense to get the mariachi band back together, as part of your "mission from Dios."

Reviews

The American-Statesman reviewed Texican Cafe's Manchaca Road location, as did the Austin Chronicle, which awarded it Best Stuffed Jalapeños in 1999 and Best Enchiladas in 2004:

  • For the steak Fabian, strips of ribeye were grilled with onions and whole serrano peppers. The tender steak, which was served with rice and beans, picked up tantalizing flavors from the onions and peppers, but not much heat from the whole serranos. (Of course, you could eat the peppers and add real fire to your belly.) – Dale Rice, American-Statesman

Three Insider Pagers give the Brodie Oaks location five stars, while Yelpers give it 2.5. Yelpers give 3.5 stars to the Manchaca Road location, which gets 4.5 from Citysearchers and 80% approval from Urbanspooners:

  • The Texican Cafe is the best! I eat there at least once a week. The service is always amazing and the margaritas are to die for! – jamiellewis, Citysearch
  • They have huge portions and a great Margarita menu. – Kat H, Insider Pages
