If meals were like zoo animals, brunch would be the lethargically satisfied sloth; it's leisurely, ambiguous, and delicious. Feast like the anteater’s relative with today’s Groupon, which gets you $20 worth of midday delights at The Brunchery for $10. This Groupon is good at either Brunchery location, which are open daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Groupon not valid on Sundays).
The Brunchery's menu has a wide variety of brunch grab, including salads, sandwiches, burgers, omelets, pancakes, and crepes. For a sweet snack, go with the stuffed french toast (filled with fruity cream cheese and topped with cinnamon crumbs and whip cream; $7.79) or the waffle deluxe (topped with strawberries, ice cream, and whipped cream; $7.79) If you're a savory bruncher, try the morning after omelette (peppers, onions, bacon, cheese, and tomato; $7.79), the Brunchery benedict, (poached eggs on an English muffin with ham, mushrooms, Swiss, and hollandaise; $7.59), or the burger melt on grilled rye ($5.99). Unusual brunch suspects include root beer floats ($2.79), soy-based shakes ($2.59), and grilled Grouper sandwiches (6.79)
During the week you typically consume your meals like a professional baseball player late for an optometrist appointment. You swallow Pop Tarts on the bus, furiously chomp lunch while tetrising at your desk, and eat compressed bars of smoked turkey on the way to the gym. Brunch is that one glorious meal where splurging and loitering are encouraged. Yolk-colored walls, kitschy décor, and top-notch service will make you want to spend the entire day eating, talking about eating, or drawing pictures of eating.
Reviews
AOL City’s Best named The Brunchery the city’s Best Brunch spot. One Citysearcher gives it five stars, and a Yelper gives it three:
- The atmosphere is not a rushed one - but a slower-paced brunch feel. The food is worthy of any gourmet breakfast restaurant, but no pretenses here. You feel like one of the family, and any waiting lines that are there exist because the food and service are more than worth the short wait. – dstepp, Citysearch
Forgettable Blended Meals
In the span of dining history, brunch is the only new meal to penetrate the oligarchy of the dominant big three. This doesn’t, however, mean that other would-be meal inventors haven’t tried and failed. Here are some of the additional meals that have failed to catch on over the years:
- Lunchkfast: A brunch alternative designed for people who get hungry at 11 a.m., but hate leaving the house or socializing. Experimental Lunchkfasts usually consist of eating dry cereal while repeatedly peeking through venetian blinds.
- Brunnerunch: A combination of two brunches and a dinner, this meal can only be enjoyed from beyond the event horizon of a black hole, an ultra-gravitational corona of distorted space-time from which not even light can escape, or alternatively, while watching the 1997 Sam Neill sci-fi horror flick Event Horizon.
- Frinner: A registered trademark of the O’Grizzly’s restaurant franchise, Frinner is a meal that can only be consumed during a Friday Hip-Hop Happy Hour at O’Grizzly’s, when its Dollar Deal Triple Play Drink Special menu comes into effect between the hours of 4:45 and 7:10 p.m. A meal is usually shared by coworkers with very little to talk about. O’Grizzly’s addresses this problem by making it impossible to hear over the O’Grizzly’s.com Liquid Courage Karaoke Contest, sponsored by O’Grizzly’s Step into flavor, step into fun.

About The Brunchery
Prepare 1,000 lunches in less than 20 hours. That was the challenge posed for The Brunchery’s catering staff. The eatery’s experts met the daunting request, quickly assembling the hefty sandwiches that The Brunchery has perfected throughout its more than 32 years in business since 1985. When President George W. Bush came to Tampa, the White House called upon The Brunchery's catering. In addition to corned beef, grilled grouper, and shaved steak piled on deli rye bread and kaiser rolls, The Brunchery plies guests with half-pound burgers seasoned by chipotle mayo and dill pickles.
But as its name implies, the restaurant doesn’t just craft food for lunch; it’s possibly best known for its morning treats. Made-from-scratch hollandaise sauce for benedicts and golden pancakes have earned The Brunchery awards including Best Place for Breakfast/Brunch from readers of the South Tampa Community News in 2010. When NBC interviewed owner Greg Elliot, the feature zeroed in on the restaurant’s signature french toast, which mingles cream-cheese sauce, bananas, strawberries, and slivered almonds.
Guests devour this lavish creation and others while dining among the dining room’s decorative dishware, Coke bottles, and shelves. Many of the objects come from Greg’s family, such as a hutch his great-great-grandfather built in the 1800s, making guests feel as at home as a rabbit in a top hat.
