About Center for Book Arts
The resident and contributing artists at The Center for Book Arts demonstrate that books aren't just containers for text: they're also physical works of art. Through ever-changing exhibits and a collection of more than 2,000 items, the Center showcases the book's role in both contemporary and classical visual arts. Four annual, themed group exhibitions and rotating displays from featured artists celebrate the book "as object, as media, and as a site of resistance," and give a new purpose to old dictionaries that have already been read front-to-back.
Because this gallery is also an active working studio, its visitors are encouraged do more than just look around. Hands-on classes engage participants in the arts of bookbinding and papermaking, while weekly events include opening receptions for exhibitions, artist talks, and special professional development workshops.
