Like cheese, classical music is best enjoyed when in string form. Snack on the sounds of cultured compositions with today's Groupon: for $7, you get an orchestra-seating ticket to one of three Houston Symphony performances at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, operated by The Center for Performing Arts at The Woodlands (a $15 value). Tickets are first-come, first-served. Choose from three upcoming performances:
"Out of This World" on Wednesday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m., propels audience members into the depths of the universe's bedroom with an auditory voyage led by conductor Robert Franz through space-themed music, including themes from E.T. and Star Wars. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with preconcert festivities, beginning with the Hats Off to Reading Celebration, in the House of Blues Hospitality Tent and in Fidelity Investments Plaza.
"Dvorak's Cello Concerto" on Friday, May 20 at 8:00 p.m. showcases the bow-flailing talents of veteran cellist Alisa Weilerstein as she and the orchestra, helmed by conductor Hans Graf, paint a sweeping soundscape of lush melodies from the illustrious composer's symphonic swan song. A stirring performance of Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2 will also invade the audience's auditory passage-ways.
"Let the Good Times Roll—The Music of Ray Charles" on Thursday, May 26 at 8:00 p.m. features former Ray Charles protégé Ellis Hall, as conductor Michael Krajewski leads the orchestra through some of the late, great singer's biggest toe-stompers, including "I Can't Stop Loving You" and "Hit the Road Jack."
The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion was renovated and expanded to include thousands of new seats, a larger canopy structure, and a state-of-the-art sound system that makes the Houston Symphony’s perfectly punctuated staccatos sound superb. This deal gets you seats in the orchestra level (you'll be assigned a seat when you redeem your Groupon; click here to see a seating chart). Though mezzanine and lawn seats are free, today's deal enhances your musical experience by putting you close enough to smell the resin and sweat from epic on-stage bow fights. Gates open at 7 p.m. Redeem your Groupon at the box office.
