Crafting your way into someone's cupboard is the craftiest way into his or her heart. Create a heartfelt cupboarding pass with today's deal: for $18, you get $36 worth of pottery painting and studio fees at The Mad Potter, with locations on Voss Road in Houston, and in Bellaire and River Oaks.
The Mad Potter is devoted to fostering a creative atmosphere in which aspiring artists can decorate provided pottery using a vast array of colorful paints, with assistance from a helpful and friendly staff. Ceramics come fully formed, but pale and unglazed, quivering in anticipation of whatever identity you choose to bestow upon them with the tip of a pigment-saturated brush. Create your very own number-one-dad coffee mug ($10), or paint a piggy bank ($16) with images of pigs holding money sacks. Dog bowls ($20) can be customized to suit your pooch's personality, while dinner plates ($14) provide the clean expanse needed to detail all of Grover Cleveland's mustache.
Pottery painting is an ideal bonding activity to do with a child, a fun alternative to corporate team building, and infinitely preferable to slow dancing alone in a dark field. Stencils and stamps are available alongside the brushes and paint to make crafting consistent designs manageable. After you're finished painting, staff members will fire the freshly painted item in the store’s kiln, fusing the paint and glaze with the piece of pottery to make a seamless whole. In three days, you'll have your pottery back. Feel free to purchase a variety of beers and wines at the River Oaks location; or bring your own beer at the Bellaire and Voss Road locations.
This Groupon can be used toward both studio fees ($6 for kids, $8 for adults) and the cost of pottery.

About The Mad Potter: Paint-your-own-Pottery Studios
For Meredith McCord, looking at a piece of pottery brings back decades of memories. McCord started The Mad Potter in 1998, and since those early days, she's used her kiln to immortalize countless special moments. She's traveled to hospitals to capture the footprints of newborns, helped a young man create a dessert plate with the words "Will you marry me?" emblazoned across it, and auctioned off items for charity. Yet some of her fondest memories center on the day-to-day interactions with customers, specifically when they return to pick up their fired pieces and utter three words of amazement: "I did that?"
The Mad Potter has since expanded into three Houston-area locations, where children and adults come to paint their own works of art or create replicas of their ancient ancestors' garden gnomes. More than 500 bisqueware items line the shelves of each studio, including coffee mugs, plates, and figurines. Staffers then help visitors select from more than 54 available colors of paint and supply them with everything else they might need, including brushes and stencils. The staff can even take things over and create more intricate designs—while still consulting closely with the customer. Whatever route a person chooses, there's always time for a sip of wine or beer; the River Oaks location sells both while Bellaire and Woodway maintain a BYOB policy.
