A recently discovered alternative to the indoors, going "outside" offers adventurous explorers exposure to things such as wind, sunshine, and the naturally occurring mazes found in cornfields. Leave the indoors with today's Groupon to The MAiZE at The Pumpkin Patch, located on Sauvie Island. Choose from two MAiZE options:
- $7 for two tickets to the Heart in Oregon MAiZE (up to a $14 value)
- $10 for two tickets to the Haunted MAiZE (a $20 value)
The MAiZE at The Pumpkin Patch unleashes two adventures of agricultural architecture on its visitors. The Heart in Oregon MAiZE ($7 admission for adults, $5 admission for children age 6–12 and seniors) is built into a five-acre cornfield of 12-foot stalks and contains a slew of unexpected circles, twists, and intangible mind games. Maze-travelers can attempt to find their way out on their own, or they can be given a "passport" packed with trivia questions that, if answered correctly, will point the way out for adventurers not wishing to become full-time scarecrows. The Heart in Oregon MAiZE—showing a heart-shaped center when seen from overhead or under-helicopter—is open seven days a week from September 4 through October 31.
The Haunted MAiZE ($10 admission for all ages) takes a spookier approach to sifting through the stalks. The four-acre maze, mowed into the shape of either an eerie scarecrow or David Bowie, leads haunt-hounds on a winding labyrinth, with thrills and chills around each starchy corner. Fulfill your Children of the Corn fixation without getting caught up with He Who Walks Behind the Rows with a trip through the Haunted MAiZE, open on Friday and Saturday nights from October 8 through Halloween night.
The Haunted MAiZE may not be suitable for children age six and under. Children under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult in the Haunted MAiZE.
Reviews
Yelpers give the Maize an average of 4.5 stars:
- Who doesn't dream of invoking a children of the corn-esque experience in their life? where they can traipse around huge stalks of corn and getting lost...for fun? It's truly a great way to cement the fact that it's official autumn. – Michelle H.
- That night in that cornfield is where my opinion on destinations changed. Finding the exit was great, but being lost was the truly best part. – Andrew C.

About The MAiZE at The Pumpkin Patch
Many traditional artists paint linen or sculpt stone. For an agri-artist such as Portland Maize's Craig Easterly, though, a cornfield makes a perfectly good canvas. For two decades now, Craig has been chiseling through the 12-foot stalks of his field to create what is from the ground a maze of rustling green tunnels and from above a stunning tableau of Portland themes and images.
Along with its maze, Portland MAiZE is one of many fall-centric, family-friendly activities to experience at The Pumpkin Patch. Oregonians revel in the wet fall weather in their rubber boots and rain jackets as they bounce along on free hayrides in October, get crowned king of the hay mountain, or mimic the beastly accents of farm animals in the big red barn.
