During the one-hour session, pupils learn the fundamentals of tea infusion and consumption, including how to select and brew a balmy beverage and how to bolster the self-esteem of pots unhappy about their shortness and stoutness. Palates wallow in cockle-warming samples of five teas as noses inhale and analyze serenity-inducing fragrances billowing forth from the steaming cups. Along with boosting participants’ gustatory prowess, the tasting delves into tea’s storied past, from its rarified ceremonial origins to its present-day place at the parties of hatters mad and otherwise.
