With today's Groupon, $10 gets you $20 worth of ice cream or cake at the Pied Piper Creamery, Nashville Scene readers’ pick for Best Ice Cream in town. This East Nashville parlor’s 147 flavors of homemade dairy delights have also earned it a spot on Food & Wine's 2009 list of the best new ice cream shops.

Like an even less scary version of The Stuff, Pied Piper's list of flavors is always expanding, encompassing fruit, nut, candy, and chocolate concoctions to astound ice cream's savviest slurpers. "Get Lucky!" after you try "Are you There God? It's Me, Margarita" or "Artist Formerly Known As Mints." There's orange pineapple, watermelon, strawberry, and "Can't Elope" sorbets. Try Little Debbie, Krispee-Kreme, and Reese's Cup ice creams. Soy options include "I'm Soy Excited" and "Pumpkin Soy," which sounds like it might be one of its signature puns, but is hard to pin down for sure. Pied Piper's ice-cream-expert owner, a graduate of Frozen Dessert University, was asked to develop a black walnut blend by a company that sells ice cream ingredients.

Pied Piper Creamery has a big front porch for sponging up the afternoon and a friendly staff whose pleasant ice-cream screams have perfect pitch.

Note: Call ahead for custom cake orders.
