The Pittsburgh Bagel Factory is one of Pittsburgh’s family-owned independent bagel shops, and, as such, it takes the time to assemble fresh, creative, morning and noontime nosh. Its freshly baked bagels ($0.89 each, $8.50+ for a baker’s dozen) are available in more than 10 flavors. Some flavors are classic (such as sesame and poppy), some are mysterious (the “super”), but all are downright delicious and can be upgraded with toppings such as bacon, egg, and cheese ($3.75 with bagel) and spreadable companions including smoked-whitefish salad ($5.95). The menu also lists soul-warming soups, hearty deli sandwiches, and crisp chopped salads served with homemade dressings. To cleanse meats and grains from esophagi, there’re coffee and espresso drinks, such as the single-shot vanilla latte ($2.75).
