Melt mounds of sugary dough into perfect pocket-sized flat treats, or break into the sweetly swooped frosting lids of a dozen lovely little cup-loafs with this Groupon: $10 for a dozen organic cupcakes or cookies at Urban Cookies. Urban Cookies’ urban cookies were named Best Cookies in Phoenix in 2007 by the Phoenix New Times for their freshness, environmental consciousness (85% of the ingredients are organic), dislikelihood of becoming sentient, and extreme yumminess.

A dozen cookies or cupcakes solve many of the recent problems associated with cookies and cupcakes, including scarcity, rareness, and severe shortage. Urban Cookies’ cookie menu offers four flavors of organic delights:

  • Urban Cookie: Layers of 60% dark chocolate from Peru, rolled oats, toasted walnuts, and gourmet coconut bits
  • Simple Urban: Layers of 37% milk chocolate sandwiched in a home of dark molasses brown sugar, wholesome wheat flour and the intensity of pure bourbon vanilla from Madagascar
  • Urban Tropic: Combination of sweet coconut and chunks of dried tart pineapple
  • Urban Trail: Nutty and crunchy goodness of almonds, sunflower seeds and brown rice crisps is combined with rolled oats and sweet raisins

Each cookie has a list of its organic contents, and full nutritional information is available. The cookies’ cupcake counterparts, OllieCakes, come in carrot, chocolate, and a seasonal flavor. Both cookies and cupcakes are baked with gourmet ingredients, such as organic European-style butter, pure bourbon-style vanilla, organic whole-wheat flour, local eggs, and 60% cacao chocolate. Plus, the store has bamboo flooring, fluorescent light bulbs, and low-emission paint. The cupcake and cookie craftsmen at Urban Cookies are friendly, and there’s a swanky patio for pleasant on-site gobbling.

Reviews

Urban Cookies has been featured in Arizona Living magazine, Arizona Foothills magazine, and more. The Phoenix New Times named Urban Cookies Best Cookies in 2007: > * Homemade cookies may remind us of our grandmother’s gingham-clad kitchen, but there is nothing suburban about these super-chocolaty, all-natural treats… UC’s funky, earth-friendly gift packaging is sure to put smiles on your loved ones’ milk-mustached faces. – Melissa Wujick, Arizona Foothills > * We no longer apologize for our need to eat dessert every day, now that we’ve discovered a place that bakes up the world’s most responsible cookies. The Urban Cookies philosophy (“Our cookies are round, but our vision has four integral corners”) says it all about this extraordinary, cookie-specific bakery, where the freshest, highest-quality ingredients are gathered from select purveyors who uphold the standards of owners Shaun and Brady Breese. – Phoenix New Times

Urban Cookies has a 4.5-star rating on Yelp. One reviewer on Insider Pages gives it four stars, and one on Kudzu gives it a perfect five. Two people reviewed it on Google: > * Urban cookies already had the best cookies in town but now they have added cupcakes to the menu! I triend [sic] the most amazing lemon one the other day!! – Stephanie, Google > * Doesn’t matter where you live, you can order these eco-friendly and organic cookies online and you can personalize your own package as well. This husband and wife team are great people! – Tonyfelice, Kudzu > * Urban Cookies is fantastic. They make organic cookies that are natural and delicious. – katherine y., Insider Pages

Cupcakes: How to Stop Them

Cupcakes are increasingly replacing full-sized cakes as America’s favorite cake treat—a fact that has not escaped the powerful Cake Lobby. The Cake Lobby, representing the interests of the country’s traditional-cake bakers, has taken the following steps to combat the rise of cupcakes:

  • Delivers one free full-sized cake to every home each Thursday
  • Released a cloud of specially bred and trained day-bats to dive-bomb cupcake-eaters in public places
  • Mailed every house the helpful pamphlet How Cupcakes Caused The Economic Crises of 1929 and Today
