The 4.5- to 5.5-mile walks led by Urban Hiker SF's staff do double duty—while participants get a unique glimpse of The City, they also get in a good workout. The tours traverse the many stairways, trails, and hills of San Francisco, and knowledgable leaders enliven each trek with historical anecdotes. Founded by New Jersey native and West Coast transplant Alexandra Kenin, the tours are inspired by her own journeys through the Bay Area, fueled by a book chronicling San Francisco's best public stairways and least-maintained escalators, called Stairway Walks in San Francisco.
