The U.S. Space and Rocket Center narrates the history of American space exploration with gripping displays, space artifacts, and exhibits for all ages. The fully restored Saturn V rocket looms over the center’s spacious campus, using its awe-inspiring bulk to spark imaginations and convince bullies to return stolen lunch money. The museum’s featured exhibit, 100 Years of Von Braun: His American Journey, fetes the co-father of cosmic aeronautics with multimedia displays that delve into his cerebellum, spanning both his personal life and his ground-shattering careers with NASA and the U.S. Army. Visitors can also immerse themselves in astronaut experience with the center’s rides and simulators, including live shows in the Discovery Theater that explore the inner workings of the International Space Station. The G-Force Accelerator whirls its riders around in a donut-shaped room, using centrifugal force to apply frosting and 3 Gs of pressure, and the Space Shot shoots riders 140 feet into the air, bringing them from five Gs to a thrilling freefall. Take a break from gravity manipulation and lean back in one of the IMAX theater’s 257 seats, enjoying colossal renditions of Hubble, a Leo DiCaprio–narrated tale of the famous telescope, or Legends of Flight, focusing on modern aviation innovations.
