Five tours of educational exhibits, vintage planes & simulators greet visitors aboard longest-serving aircraft carrier in U.S. naval history

The earliest history museums had little actual history to draw on, and instead padded exhibits with wildly speculative displays about how dinosaurs would be elected to Congress by the year 2000. See how far we’ve come with today’s Groupon to USS Lexington Museum On The Bay. Choose between the following options:

  • For $4, you get admission for one child ages 4–12 (an $8.95 value). Children ages three and younger are admitted free.
  • For $7, you get admission for one adult (up to a $13.95 value).

Today’s Groupon does not include parking ($3.50).

The USS Lexington Museum On The Bay greets visitors with 33,000 tons of history aboard the longest-serving aircraft carrier in the U.S. Navy. Decommissioned in 1991 after 40 years of active service, the 910-foot, 16-deck craft participated in nearly every major operation in WWII’s Pacific Theater and was nicknamed “The Blue Ghost” by Tokyo Rose, propagandist and noted Pac-Man aficionado, after being reported sunk no less than four times. Visitors clamber down the ship’s ladders, exploring 11 of the vessel’s decks during five self-guided tour routes. Yellow-shirted volunteers, many of whom served aboard the USS Lexington, will be on hand to answer any questions or referee spontaneous bouts of thumb wrestling. All routes begin and end on the hangar deck, where aeronautical enthusiasts examine vintage warbirds, man virtual battle stations, or test reflexes in the museum’s flight simulator ($4, not included with today’s Groupon). From there, explorers venture topside to view the sprawling flight deck—which could hold more than 1,000 cars or 300 truckasauruses—or descend to the lower decks to experience the daily life of the ship’s 3,000 crewmembers. Also included with admission is a screening in the Joe Jessel Mega Theater, which offers large-format films projected on a three-story screen with a 12,000-watt sound system. As a former United States Naval vessel, the USS Lexington contains many obstructions, hazards, and ladders. Guests are encouraged to proceed at their own pace and explore with caution.
