At Velvet Taco, tacos aren't just a quick bite to eat, they're an experience. The urban taco joint puts an international twist on tacos, stuffing the housemade tortillas with such ingredients as pork belly, chicken tikka, tofu, and raw ahi tuna. When it opened its location in the Gold Coast neighborhood, the Texas-based eatery even created a taco reminiscent of a Chicago-style hot dog—combining pork belly, pickles, tomatoes, onion, celery salt, and, of course, mustard. • Brunch tacos: Velvet Taco embraces the Texas tradition of eating tacos for every meal and offers two brunch tacos, including the egg-frittata taco with bacon, chili butter, and tater tots.

• Untraditional margaritas: Bartenders sweeten freshly made margaritas with scoops of cold lime sorbet.

• Unconventional sides: Not content with only whipping up fusion tacos, the chefs at Velvet Taco create fusion sides, too, including red-curry coconut queso and tater tots crowned with an egg, goat cheese, and bacon. They also roast corn in house on a rotisserie to create elotes.
