Stop At: Mount Rushmore National Memorial

We stop for a brief tour of the famous Monument and an opportunity to visit the gift shop. In the off season the attractions here close early. If you would like more time to visit the Sculpturs Studio and walk the Presidential Trial we suggest purchasing a day tour.

On this tour we first stop at one of the lessor known views of Mt Rushmore . . . to the west of the main entrances is a small parking lot for a unique photo of George Washingtons Profile. This was never intened to be at attraction but has become one of his famous pictures.

On our way to the Norberk Overlook we travel up Iron Mtn Road . . . experiencing the one of a kind pigtail bridges and famous one way tunnels. Pausing for photo ops.

Stop At: Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway
Prior to sunset we travel to Norbeck Overlook on Iron Mountain Road. In the daylight, from this mountain top are panorimic views of the wonders of the region: Black Hills National Forest, Mt Rushmore Monument, Black Elk Peak, and the Badlands in the distance. We witness the golden red sunset to the west and the final daylight views of Mount Rushmore. Then the bright white lights come on the monument and eluminates the famous faces of the presidents. As the sky darkens we stop for stargazing. A little know fact is because of ambient light in the cities - over 80% of Americans never see the stars. But from here you will get to experience not just the many stars, but also the Milkey Way and passing satilites circling the earth. The Mercedes van has a sliding glass top that offers excellent viewing (either closed or open). Your guide will show you how to expierence star watching with the use of technology. You'll enjoy the eveining and gain knowledge you can share with others.

On our return we stop at several of the famous one-way tunnels on Iron Mountain Road to view the lighted faces of the four presidents on the mountain. A view few get to experience.
