About Virginia Air and Space Center
Astronaut John Glenn and the other Mercury Seven astronauts were the first Americans to escape Earth’s atmosphere. They trained here in Hampton, Virginia. With NASA Langley Research Center, they experienced a decade of exploration. The Virginia Air and Space Center was built and strives to excite all minds, both young and old by combining years of history and scientific discovery.
The 110,000 square foot building houses more than 30 historic aircrafts and is the only place in the world with NASA’s four space capsules on display: The Apollo XII, Orion test capsule, Mercury, & Gemini. Come visit us and launch rockets in our Space Challenge Exhibit, drive a rover in one of our Be the Astronaut capsules, and check out Neil Armstrong’s training vehicle, the Lunar Excursion Module (LEM). Don’t forget to sit back and relax at our IMAX theater; the largest IMAX screen in Hampton Roads.
