Like an expert plumbing job, a fun karaoke night keeps pipes fresh, pleases bystanders, and is best performed while drinking. Unclog and let loose with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of karaoke, eats, and drinks at Voicebox, and if redeemed Sunday through Thursday, the value increases to $25. Voicebox is closed on manic Mondays in accordance with the 1986 decision of Bangles vs. Board of Education. Anyone visiting after 9 p.m. must be at least 21 years of age.
With six spacious luxury private party rooms, state-of-the-art sound systems and screens, and more than 12,000 songs, Voicebox is one of the finest places to belt out classics without the judgment of tippled strangers or failed Armenian Idol contestants. Be as serious, as goofy, or as gutterpunk-Streisand as you please after booking your own lounge, each able to house various numbers of warblers ($7 per hour, per guest). A varied food and drink menu allows for a sundry selection of song and subsistence couplings. Nosh on the shredded ika-jerky smoked calamari while singing a nautical classic such as “Under the Sea”; pair a glass of locally produced ruby Momokawa sake ($5) with affirmative Japanese tracks such as Katsumi's "Yes, 抱きしめて"; or even sip a frothy Corona ($4) and weep uncontrollably while crooning Hank Williams Jr. and Sr.'s "There's a Tear in My Beer."
Manga-style murals by local comic-book artists Arnold and Jacob Pander accentuate the Asian-influenced, urban-chic setting of Voicebox. Its welcoming environs make for a star-making company event night or rollicking birthday party. Like the study cubes at the local library, reservations are required and space is subject to availability, so call ahead to reserve a spot.
Not valid toward happy-hour specials.
Reviews
Voicebox was mentioned in Delta's Sky magazine. Yelpers give Voicebox an average of four stars, and Citysearchers give it an average of 4.5 stars:
- For night owls looking for a place to belt out their favorite tunes, Voicebox Karaoke Lounge is the place to go in Portland. – Sky
- Voicebox is great because you can chill with you buds in your own room and be as serious or goofy as you want. If you want croon Unchained Melody (my favorite) or try rapping, there's no pressure to be good and no crowd judging you. – uslennar, Citysearch
- At Voicebox, we roll in and pay to have our own room to sing whatever songs we want to hear for how long we want. The prices are absolutely reasonable, so it is great to hang out in a room drink a few beers and jam out to our favorite tunes. – smizz, Citysearch
