Formerly a flea market whose booths once contained an infamous K.C. serial killer, Westport Flea Market has elaborated on its colorful history with a menu of hearty burgers and pub grub, as well as 44 beers on tap. A starter of titanic nachos ($7.99) is heavy enough to double as its own ender, but savvy diners will save stomach space for the famous flea market burger ($7.99), made out of 10 ounces of ground chuck from McGonigle's. Equally hand-holdable and mouth-moisturizing is Joe Joe's famous chicken Panini ($7.99), which dresses the chicken in three kinds of cheese, caramelized onions, and roasted red peppers on foccacia bread. All foods are ordered at the bar counter, then passed to you through a window by either a boisterous chef or smart-mouthed hand puppet.

Once you've grabbed your grub and a seat, a Flea Market server will keep you stocked with frothy flagons from the bar, whose taps unleash thundering waterfalls of Flying Monkey Amber Ale, Shocktop Belgian Wheat, Boulevard Lunar Ale, and many more. As you wander through the cash-only libationery's labyrinthine layout, you might find yourself bumping into local celebrities, Mayor Mark Funkhouser (who celebrated his election here), or drunk minotaurs. The Westport Flea Market's regular line-up of live music and events draws a different flavor of crowd every night. Engage in high-stakes staring contests during Sunday's Texas Hold 'em, show off your throat-singing skills during the live karaoke, or find your checkmating soulmate during chess club on Tuesdays.
