Founded in 1944, the Wichita Symphony Orchestra has spread melodic knowledge and entertainment for the better part of seven decades. This season, the orchestra is embracing the classics under the theme of “Destination Music.” Choose from the following shows and dates:

• Halloween at the Symphony on Saturday, October 30, at 8 p.m. or Sunday, October 31, at 3 p.m.: The symphony helps listeners get into the spirit with this spookily themed show, featuring pianist Adam Golka, a 22-year-old, award-winning pianist who’s set to play a repertoire of eerie tunes evoking a gallows march, a witches' Sabbath, and other otherworldly imagery.

• Cliburn Medalist Plays Mozart on Saturday, November 13, at 8 p.m. or Sunday, November 14, at 3 p.m.: Yeol Eum Son, a 2009 Van Cliburn Piano Competition silver medalist, plays Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21, Elvira Madigan; Wagner's prelude to Die Meistersinger; and Sibelius's Symphony No. 5. Son’s celebrated piano stylings, entertaining stage presence, and distinct ability to tickle the ivories until they cry on-key “uncles” should make this a show to remember.

• Beethoven and the Clarinet Collaboration on Saturday, January 15, at 8 p.m. or Sunday, January 16, at 3 p.m.: Guest conductor Markand Thakar and clarinetist David Shifrin double-feature on Weber's Clarinet Concerto No. 2; Ponchielli's Il Convegno; Kernis's Musica Celestis; and Beethoven's Symphony No. 6, Pastoral. Clarinetist Suzanne Tirk also appears.

• Rachin' Out on Saturday, April 9, at 8 p.m., or Sunday, April 10, at 3 p.m.: The springtime event of the Rachmaninoff season features Ukranian-born Valentina Lisitsa on piano playing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2, followed by the orchestra's takes on Verdi's La Forza del Destino: Overture, three dances from Smetana's The Bartered Bride, and Stravinsky's Firebird suite.
